Laurie Myers

Since 1991 Laurie has been teaching art to elementary school students. She developed a program to bring art history and technique into the classroom. Although her many projects have yielded satisfying student work, she always stresses it is the process of making art that is the joy… She has written two books on her program and her ideas on teaching. Laurie has made several TV programs teaching from her books. They are shown in conjunction with the “Life in the Arts” series on KMST. She has taught watercolor workshops for teachers at the Asilomar Regional Reading Conference in Pacific Grove for several years. Every summer she creates and teaches a special project for the Salinas Libraries. She is a member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, on the Arts Advocacy Council for Alisal City School District and teaches art fulltime to Steinbeck School and Monterey Park School in Salinas, California. She attended school in Southern California and Lausanne, Switzerland.

Laurie Myers lives on a ranch and is surrounded by horses, cowboy gear and a cowboy. They all inspire her every painting. As an Artist Laurie is self-taught -- she has a special style that incorporates an impressionist approach to a very realistic subject matter.

Arts in Monterey County
Lauire has been promoting the Arts in Monterey County since 1974 and now is seeking to bring her experience to a larger group of students.

Lauire developed a Fine Arts program for children. Her main premise was to expose them to the great artists of the world, and learn about their history while having fun. She has taught her program to thousands of students and teachers on the Central Coast during the past 15 years. She has documented thousands of classroom hours as a teacher and art consultant -- has written and published a book in response to the many teacher requests regarding her program -- was commissioned to write a book for Salinas City School supplementing their reading program with art projects.
